Can You Match the Book and Excerpt?
Welcome to the first Book and Excerpt matching game hosted by me, Julia Ridgmont. In my latest newsletter, which I send out every two weeks (if you aren’t subscribing to it, click here and let’s take care of that first) I introduced this game by sharing three excerpts from my older stories. If you haven’t read them yet, here’s where you can see the challenge. Dah-da-da-dah (drum roll): Excerpt 1 belongs to . . . . . A Home for Christmas Being a mail-order bride had to be a tough thing in the Old West! I realize this sort of thing still happens today, but back then, there was…

Feeling Hopeful
I think it’s safe to say that 2020 hasn’t been the year that any of us expected it to be. Unwittingly, I scheduled ten books to write between January and December, more than twice the number I’ve ever put out in a year’s time. But I felt confident I could do it. Then came the virus, and it threw everything out of whack! This was followed by months of adjusting to new and often crazy circumstances. Teaching the kids at home while also trying to meet my own deadlines became so stressful that by the end of the school year, we pretty much just checked out. Then came a summer…

I’m Writing My Own New Series!
Whew! If your new year began anything like mine, you’ll totally understand when I say, “When will this merry-go-round stop?” Not that I don’t enjoy merry-g0-rounds, but generally speaking, I’m a slow-moving creature. I like to take my time doing things right, and the past few weeks have flown by in a flurry. Why, you might ask? Because I wanted to publish book 2 in my new Brides of Hope Hollow series sometime in January. But when I got sick in December–so sick that I was basically bedridden for several weeks even through Christmas–I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off. As stubborn as I am, though, I decided…

Belles of Wyoming Summer Collection
Hi! I’m so glad you are joining me today! As I mentioned before, two of my books, In the Nick of Time and Daring to Love Again, will be part of the Belles of Wyoming summer collection. This collection of stories from several different authors takes place in summer, and most of them end with a barn raising for Rosalie and Marin Davis, two newlyweds in the town of Belle. However, each book is a standalone. Readers will get glimpses of other people in town, but the books themselves can be read in any order. We have 20 novellas releasing throughout the month of September 2019, Monday – Friday of…

Two New Stories for You!
While reading a series, have you ever wished you could just reading straight through books 1, 2, 3, etc. without stopping or having to wait for the next installment? Well, that is how the Belles of Wyoming multi-author series is designed. In the past, the other authors in the series and I have released 5 books back-to-back in a week’s time so that readers have five new stories to read. And even though they are shorter stories, readers have really enjoyed them. Well, I’ve got some awesome news to share with you. We have opened the summer collection to several new authors (but probably not new to you), and in…

Roadtripping through Western USA
Most of the time, when I’m plotting my next book, my mind usually drifts back to places I’ve been. There’s something comforting and secure about setting a story in a location I’ve actually seen and incorporating things that are special to that place in the story. Once in a blue moon, when my plot absolutely requires me to step out of that comfort zone, I will spend an eternity researching a new locale online. But only if the story really needs it. (I’m working on becoming a more adventurous writer! Maybe someday I’ll get there.) A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of taking a wonderful road trip…

We Love Audiobooks!
Hi, and welcome to my website! Are you an audiobook fan? So am I! Audiobooks are so convenient with this fast-paced world we live in. When we don’t have time to read a good book, but we still want to relax or take our mind off things, they’re a great way to do that. Beginning on May 24, 2019 and running until the end of May, 10 authors of clean YA fiction, including myself, are offering one of our audiobooks in a giveaway. Mine is An Agent for Elizabeth. A few months ago, I had the privilege of working with talented audiobook narrator, C.H. Amelia. She really brought my characters…

Tombstone Picture Gallery
Recently my husband and I took a day trip to a small town in southern Arizona called Tombstone. You’ve probably heard of it, being the history buff that you are. However, even though I’m a native Arizonan, I’ll admit that I wasn’t always into history, and when my high school team traveled to the tiny town of Tombstone a million years ago, I didn’t realize its significance or the contributions the events of those days made to the cowboy stories that are so prevalent today. I’m happy to say that I now know better, and our recent trip gave me an even greater understanding of that time period in this…
